Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies used by principals in their efforts to improve the professional competence of teachers. In the midst of educational transformation and complex educational problems, especially for teachers in schools, it is important to make efforts and ways to improve and develop teacher professional competence. This research method uses an in-depth interview method with the principal and also with teachers in the school. The results of this study reveal that there are several strategies used and used by principals in order to develop and improve teacher professional competence, namely the principal provides flexibility and freedom for teachers to participate in activities such as workshops, RPP training, teacher movement activities, practical teaching activities, Subject Teacher Deliberation (MGMP) activities, Teacher Working Groups (KKG), Teacher Training, and Teacher Professional Education (PPG). The conclusion of the study is that the principal found that there were obstacles for teachers to improve their professional competence, namely the lack of intention and motivation of teachers to develop, age factors, time that sometimes clashes with teaching hours, and lack of support and support from the family and surrounding environment. The solution used by the principal to overcome these obstacles is to take a personal approach to teachers, try to divide teachers' time between teaching and participating in training activities, prioritize the scale of priorities and always provide support and motivation to teachers to always develop their competence
