Artificial Intelligence Policy

Artificial Intelligence Policy

Introduction

The International Journal of Economics Development Research (IJEDR) acknowledges the significant role of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to support authors throughout the research and writing stages. IJEDR encourages the use of AI innovations to foster idea generation, speed up research discovery, assist in synthesising or analysing results, refine language, and improve manuscript organisation.

Generative AI and large language models (LLMs) provide opportunities to enhance and accelerate scholarly work and its dissemination. However, these tools cannot replace human creativity and critical reasoning. IJEDR has therefore established this policy to guide authors, reviewers, and editors in making responsible and ethical decisions regarding the use of AI technologies.

Permitted Use of AI Tools

Authors may employ AI-based tools to support different aspects of manuscript preparation, including but not limited to:

  • Language editing and proofreading: identifying grammar issues, spelling mistakes, and enhancing readability.

  • Reference management: assisting with citation organisation, reference formatting, and bibliography generation.

  • Plagiarism detection: checking originality and ensuring academic integrity of submissions.

  • Data analysis: processing and interpreting complex data sets to present results more effectively.

Prohibited Use of AI Tools

Although AI tools can be useful, there are specific restrictions on their application:

  • Content generation: AI must not be used to create core sections of the manuscript such as the introduction, methodology, results, or conclusion. Authors are responsible for contributing their own original ideas and intellectual input.

  • Unethical practices: AI tools may not be used to manipulate or falsify data, fabricate findings, or engage in any activity that violates academic integrity.

Guidelines for Responsible Use

Authors choosing to use AI tools should:

  • Validate AI output: Review, edit, and confirm the accuracy of AI-assisted content. Final responsibility for the manuscript remains with the author(s).

  • Provide disclosure: Clearly state the use of AI tools during submission, including mentioning software used for editing, plagiarism checks, or data analysis in the acknowledgments section.

  • Acknowledge tools: Cite or reference the AI software appropriately where relevant.

Ethical Principles

All authors must comply with academic ethics and integrity when using AI. Any inappropriate use, including copyright infringement, plagiarism, or unethical content generation, will be treated as a violation of publication ethics.

Editorial Review

Submissions to IJEDR, regardless of whether AI assistance was used, will undergo the same strict peer-review process to ensure originality, scholarly value, and ethical compliance.

Policy Review

This policy will be periodically revised to reflect ongoing advancements in AI technology and to align with evolving best practices in academic publishing.
